Lightning Policy

LIGHTNING POLICY & PROCEDURES

Coaches are responsible for ensuring that there is a designated person monitoring the weather by using an appropriate weather app like Weather Bug.

This designated person can be a coach but PCAA would prefer a parent who is not actively participating on the field to actively monitor severe weather when possible to ensure alerts are not missed.

Lightning strike alerts should be set at a 10 MILE RADIUS within the weather app.

______________________________________________________________

If a lightning strike is detected within

10 MILE RADIUS during a practice or game:

- players, parents, fans and umpires are REQUIRED to return to their vehicles

- no one should remain at the fields, dugout or spectator area

- each head coach should begin to actively monitor proximity of lightning strikes

- coaches have ability to cancel games in consultation with umpire and commissioner

______________________________________________________________

THERE SHOULD BE A 30 MINUTE SPAN WITHOUT A LIGHTNING STRIKE

WITHIN 10 MILE RADIUS BEFORE RETURNING TO FIELDS AND RESUMING PLAY.

Thanks for your good judgement and common sense to stay safe at PCAA facilities.
